David Knowles was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana in 1966, grew up in San Francisco, and attended the University of California at Santa Cruz where he studied everything from creative writing to electronic music. After moving with his wife to New York City in 1993, he published his first book, a novella called "Streets of the Camera Obscura." Knowles is the director of Ledig House International Writers' Colony in Ghent, New York, writes frequently for Travel and Leisure magazine, and teaches creative writing at the Writers' Voice of the West Side YMCA. Knowles' first novel, "The Third Eye," (Random House) takes place over one summer in New York and follows a photographer/voyeur narrator who sublets his apartment to a young, beautiful woman only to chronicle the lives of his subletter and her neighbors from an apartment across the street.
