South African jazz from the '50s and '60s is a wonderful thing; mixing the simple, nourishing harmonies of kwela and township music with big band jazz arrangements, it feels simultaneously rustic and sophisticated, cosmopolitan and cozy. This track, a tune written by the great saxophonist Mackay Davashe and recorded with his band the Jazz Dazzlers, is included on the soundtrack to the 1997 documentary "Mandela: Son of Africa, Father of a Nation," recently out on DVD from Palm Pictures.
