Daily Download: "Bounce That," Girl Talk

Night RipperGirl Talk (nee Greg Gillis) made his way onto a bunch of best-of lists last year with his ingenious "Night Ripper" album, a dense collage of samples from radio hits past and present that, in its dizzying diversity and boundless imagination, could be the sound of the future. "Bounce That" is a good example of what's on the album, as rap hooks fit together with disco grooves and indie guitar riffs -- there are bits in here from 2 Live Crew, Paula Abdul, Neutral Milk Hotel, Sir Mix-a-Lot and Wings. This kind of ADD dance music may not be your bag, but you've got to admire the sideways thinking of someone so skilled at turning disparate parts into danceable wholes.
