Don't be dissuaded by the slightly ominous drone that kicks off this song -- keep listening and there's a good chance you'll be charmed by "Head East Kaspar's" bright web of guitars and Zincs frontman James Elkington's casual baritone. The Zincs have been kicking around since the early part of the decade, making music that, to these ears, sounds like a humbler version of '80s rockers Echo and the Bunnymen with a dollop of alt-country thrown in for good measure. Today's song comes from the band's new disc, "Black Pompadour," which sees the Zincs edging even closer to out-and-out rock music, as evidenced by the crashing drums and infectious sha-la-las that show up toward the end of this track.
