Exclusive Song of the Day: "En Casa Del Trompo No Bailes," Orquesta Riverside

Funky Cuban music from the "Shaft" era.

Orquesta Riverside provides the second of this week's two tracks from the new "Si, Para Usted" Cuban music compilation. I love the way this hard-grooving song moves back and forth between a slower percussion-and-keyboard vamp and faster, more frenetic sections -- with horns splattered all over the whole thing. The history of Orquesta Riverside actually stretches all the way back to the late '30s, but as you can tell from today's song -- recorded sometime in the mid-'70s; the liner notes are vague -- the band was obviously quite adept at changing with the times. If the band had ever made "Shaft Goes to Cuba," "En Casa Del Trompo No Bailes" would have been on the soundtrack.
