Maybe the meteoric rise of the man some have already have dubbed "Fred!" for his seemingly messianic entrance into the race for the Republican presidential nomination isn't so perfect after all. Former Tennessee Sen. Fred Thompson has just shaken up the top levels of his campaign, even before his entry into the race is official. On his way out is acting campaign manager Tom Collamore; he's being replaced by GOP strategist Randy Enright and former Sen. Spencer Abraham, who also served as secretary of energy from 2001 until 2005. The Associated Press reports that Collamore will still advise the campaign.
Word from the AP, by the way, is that Collamore's departure may have had something to do with the role of Thompson's wife, Jeri, who is herself a former GOP strategist. Collamore, according to Politico's Jonathan Martin, may not have been happy with Jeri Thompson's influence over the campaign.
