SALON'S TV PICKS FOR
WEDNESDAY, FEB. 18, 1998
BY JOYCE MILLMAN

O L Y M P I C S

Weekday coverage (1 p.m., TNT): Men's giant slalom and hockey.

Prime-time coverage (8 p.m., CBS): Women's figure skating (short program); men's giant slalom; cross country skiing (men's 4-by-10 kilometer relay).

Late-night coverage (12:35 a.m., CBS) airs after Dave.

S E R I E S

Rodney Dangerfield is the subject of a new Biography (8 p.m. EST/9 PST, A&E). NBC's alternative to figure skating: Three consecutive episodes of Law & Order (beginning 8 p.m., NBC). This trio of reruns begins with the episode introducing Carey Lowell as Assistant District Attorney Ross. The 9 p.m. episode is the one based on the Lawrence Singleton case, guest-starring Burt Young. In the last one, Schiff gets canned after he defies the governor's order to seek the death penalty in a high profile case. The American Experience (check local times, PBS) repeats its four-hour biography of Lyndon Johnson. On a new episode of Ellen (9:30 p.m., ABC), Ellen can't hit it off with her neighbors.

S P O R T S

NBA: Knicks at Jazz (8 p.m., TBS).

T A L K

Rosie O'Donnell (syndicated) welcomes Neve Campbell and the Backstreet Boys; there's more Olympic stuff from Dave's mom on David Letterman (CBS); Jay Leno (NBC) features David Schwimmer and the unveiling (no pun intended) of the 1998 Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue cover model; Pauly Shore and Bob Dornan are panelists on Politically Incorrect (ABC); Conan O'Brien (NBC) welcomes Ricki Lake.

E T C.

The hot TV rumors of the moment: Homicide is expected to be back for another season, but without Andre Braugher; Mad About You is the leading contender for the Seinfeld slot, because Helen Hunt wants to leave the show and the network is doing everything it can to change her mind; and the Seinfeld finale may feature every character who has ever appeared on the show over the past nine years.
