Say you're a clever cartoonist who created a stir with a strip skewering South Dakota state Sen. Bill Napoli and his creepy antiabortion antics, causing Napoli's office to be assailed with angry phone calls. What do you do next? Well, if you're artist Stephanie McMillan, you auction off the strip on eBay. And you donate the proceeds to abortion rights groups in South Dakota. Because you are awesome.
"Since the Bill Napoli cartoon has been receiving some attention lately, I want to use it to raise money to help keep abortion safe and legal in South Dakota," McMillan writes on her Web site. She further explains that half the proceeds of the cartoon will go to regional Planned Parenthood organizations, and the other half will go to Sacred Choices, the reproductive rights clinic Oglala Sioux tribe president Cecilia Fire Thunder plans to put on sovereign tribal lands within South Dakota. And she's encouraging supporters to dig deep: "It would be pretty cool to be able to make a significant contribution!"
As of this writing, the highest eBay bid is $405. I've never bought anything using eBay, but in this case it's awfully appealing. The bidding ends at 1 p.m. Pacific Time on Wednesday, April 5.
