Pubic topiary

Once more into the bush.

This item comes to you entirely thanks to Ann at Feministing and Laurin at Unibloggal, but there was no way I would let Broadsheet readers miss out on this gem.

Some of you have probably heard of the Australian no-heat, sugar-based hair removal product called Nads. It was rather in vogue a few years ago. I knew some people who swore by it and some people who thought it worthless and sort of gross. Anyway, Nads is attempting a comeback, and has kicked off a new ad campaign involving something called a "Bikini Design Kit." Its Web site encourages would-be baldies to "surprise that someone special or simply indulge your wickedness by personalising your most intimate region. Bikini designs are Landing Strips, Bermuda Triangle, Heart and Thunderstruck."

So basically this kit provides you with design templates so that you can prune your pubic hair into a landing strip, a triangle, a heart or, my favorite, a lightning bolt. The landing strip seems quite thick and the lightning bolt actually looks like two fluffy mustaches stuck together at odd angles, or like something has gone terribly wrong with the razor. How do I know what it looks like? Because I saw it in the totally skeevy print ad for the design kit, which features four hairless cats (I'm confident I don't have to spell out this allusion any further), each sporting one of the bikini designs on its chest.

But the reason I'm mostly telling you about it is because reaction to it has been profoundly inspired. On her blog, Laurin proclaimed her intention to craft a giant middle finger from her "private hair," snap a photo of it and mail it directly to Nads.

I think that sounds like a fantastic idea.
