Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid gets a lot of guff, especially from liberals who believe he's too timid in the face of Republican opposition. But give him some credit for what he did on Thursday.
Reid took to the floor of the Senate yesterday morning to lambaste the GOP over the slow pace of confirmation for some of President Obama's nominees, especially Regina Benjamin, his pick for surgeon general. Republicans had been blocking Benjamin's nomination over issues related to healthcare reform.
Now, though, with the threat of H1N1 still looming, the country has a surgeon general nominee who's been confirmed by the Senate. Republicans dropped their opposition and on Thursday evening the Senate confirmed Benjamin by voice vote.
