A federal appeals court has upheld the conviction of a former Navy sailor who was found guilty of leaking details about ship movements to an overseas website that supported attacking Americans.
The court in New York City on Monday rejected arguments seeking to overturn the 2008 conviction of Hassan Abu-Jihaad of Phoenix.
Abu-Jihaad was sentenced last year to 10 years in prison by a judge in New Haven, Conn., after his conviction on charges that he disclosed classified national defense information.
Prosecutors labeled him a traitor who was trying to help foreign terrorists replicate the bombing of the USS Cole, which killed 17 American sailors.
