War is Peace: Robert Gates edition

Regular posting will resume tomorrow

Ongoing travel has prevented me from writing the last few days and will again today.  Regular posting will resume tomorrow.  For those interested, here are a few segments I did on Morning Joe on Friday regarding bipartisanship, health care reform and related topics (here, here and here).  I hope to have links to the audio and/or video of some of the events I did last week as well.

For Orwellian Government Statement of the Month, allow me to nominate this gem from Defense Secretary Robert Gates, who warned that "the demilitarization of Europe -- where large swaths of the general public and political class are averse to military force and the risks that go with it [is] . . . an impediment to achieving real security and lasting peace in the 21st [century]."  So according to our Secretary of Defense -- itself an Orwellian title at this point -- the greatest danger to peace (not to mention America's ability to rule the world through mass invasions and occupations) is a desire on the part of Europeans to avoid war.

Feel free to use the comment section for whatever reasonable purposes you wish.

Some good news:  the candidate who Accountability Now has devoted the bulk of its efforts to recruiting and drafting for a primary challenge -- Lt. Gov. Bill Halter -- announced today that he will mount a primary challenge against the truly wretched Democratic incumbent, Sen. Blanche Lincoln (YES on the Iraq War, the Military Commissions Act, the Protect America Act, etc. etc. and one of the most loyal corporatists in the Congress).  I'll have more on this later in the week, but whatever else is true, forcing horrible Democratic incumbents to defend their record to Democratic voters in primaries, and forcing the Party establishment to use its resources in primary fights, prevents them from taking progressive voters for granted and is an inherently productive thing to do.
