"My life has been marked by challenge. Whether it was growing up, being a cop, Rikers Island, the New York City Police Department, or the worst challenge, until this time, my challenges during and after 9/11."

-- Bernie Kerik, the former police commissioner of New York City, speaking to reporters on the steps of a courthouse just after he pleaded not guilty to federal corruption charges. Kerik's indictment has come at a bad time for the presidential campaign of his chief patron, former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani. But hey, at least he's staying on message.
