Mitt Romney has a book coming out later this year, with a zippy title that sounds suspiciously like a campaign manifesto -- "No Apology: The Case for American Greatness." Fortunately for Romney, there happens to be a Republican presidential primary race scheduled for 2012. Judging from the book tour schedule his Free and Strong America PAC just sent reporters, that's the main thing on Romney's mind as he promotes the tome.
"Romney’s 'No Apology' is his blueprint for maintaining America’s global leadership," the statement announcing the tour says. "He argues that a strong America is essential not only for our own prosperity and security, but also for the prospects of peace and freedom throughout the world. Romney asserts that Washington politicians have put the country on the road to decline and weakness -- unless a new course is taken, America will be passed by others. Romney identifies the looming challenges that face the nation, and proposes the specific actions which he believes are necessary to overcome them."
A whirlwind tour selling the book includes a few stops that aren't typically considered essential by the publishing world -- places like Ames and Des Moines, Iowa; Manchester, N.H.; and South Carolina. There are also a couple stops in Michigan, which gave Romney his first big win in the 2008 primaries. Other stops are familiar towns on the GOP fundraising circuit -- places like Scottsdale, Ariz., La Jolla, Calif., Dallas and Houston. The one destination that raises a few eyebrows? Toronto, on March 25. Unless the Republican Party platform in 2012 includes the annexation of Canada, chances are that one has nothing to do with presidential politics.
