Tim Pawlenty making desperate Iowa ad buy

The most pointless candidate in the race tries yet again to introduce himself

Tim Pawlenty, a semi-anonymous former governor of one of the middle states, is still sitting around, unnoticed, toward the bottom of the pack in the 2012 polls. This election is right around the corner, and Pawlenty, who's been campaigning for years, has made less headway than Rick Perry, who is not actually running. So Tim's making a big Iowa media buy, well before any of his opponents.

Pawlenty is going up with ads in the first-in-the-nation caucus state starting tomorrow on Fox News with a buy just under $50,000 in the Cedar Rapids, Des Moines, Omaha, Ottumwa, Rochester, and Sioux City media markets. The ads will run from June 23rd to July 3rd.

The ads won't help the essential problem: There's no reason to support Pawlenty over anyone else. The press loves Huntsman, the Tea Party freaks love Bachmann, the old school Tea Party freaks love Ron Paul, and the majority of voters actually polled tend to prefer Mitt Romney, the competent-seeming rich person they have all heard of.

But Tim Pawlenty ads will probably be pretty funny, so I welcome this development.
