George W. Bush didn't say much about the war in Afghanistan Tuesday night, and when he did it was mostly in the past tense. He referred to "the liberation of Afghanistan" once, and he said at another point that American troops are fighting in Iraq now to prevent that country from becoming "what Afghanistan was under the Taliban."
Will the president have more to say about that other war today? The news may force his hand. A U.S. Chinook helicopter went down in eastern Afghanistan Tuesday, and military officials say that hostile fire was probably the cause. As NBC News has just reported, the military now believes that all 17 soldiers on board were killed.
