Ever since talk of a so-called Democratic dream ticket featuring both Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton -- presumably with Obama at the top -- began, Clinton has said such speculation was premature. Now, she's reportedly saying she'd consider the vice-presidential slot.
Clinton was on a conference call with other Democratic lawmakers from New York on Tuesday when Rep. Nydia Velázquez asked her about the possibility. "I am open to it," Clinton replied, according to the Associated Press.
The Politico's Ben Smith has a slightly different account of the call from one source. Smith reports:
She seemed to "nod toward" the vice presidency more clearly than she has before, one person on the call said."She didn't say 'I'm not interested in that' or 'I don't want to discuss that,'" the person said.
Instead she said, roughly, "I'll do whatever I can to help us win."
Update: There's another account of the call now, from the Buffalo News. In this version, Clinton brings up the possibility unbidden. The paper quotes Rep. Brian Higgins, D-N.Y., as saying, "She brought it up, and it was reaffirmed by others. It was in the context of: we've got to win this thing."
