The New York Times' Michael Luo did some digging into the latest campaign finance reports, and came up with a rather surprising bit of information. It seems that the McCain campaign paid Sarah Palin's makeup artist $22,800 for the first two weeks of October, making her the individual who received the most from the campaign over that period.
Amy Strozzi, who scored an Emmy nomination for her makeup work on "So You Think You Can Dance?" was paid more than high-profile people in the McCain camp like Randy Scheunemann, the Republican nominee's chief foreign policy advisor, and Nicolle Wallace, a senior communications staffer. Coming in at fourth on the list, Luo says, was Palin's hairstylist, Angela Lew.
This, needless to say, is not the kind of thing that tends to make big donors happy. Even if they believe the expenditure was necessary, the disclosure of it, and the ham-handed way the campaign tried to hide it, are embarrassing.
