Rep. Barney Frank (D-Mass.) doesn't want President-elect Barack Obama to wait until he's in office to start confronting the economic crisis gripping the U.S. On Thursday, Frank expressed himself on the issue in his usual inimitable way, telling a group of consumer advocates:
At a time of great crisis with mortgage foreclosures and autos, [Obama] says we only have one president at a time. I'm afraid that overstates the number of presidents we have. He's got to remedy that situation.
Salon Editor-in-Chief Joan Walsh wrote about this today on her blog, arguing against Frank's position. She said, "I also trust [Obama's] calm, deliberative approach to problem solving, and I don't know why Democrats are among those setting him up for potential failure by demanding that he act before he's had time to develop a plan. I think supporters should stop hand-wringing and hectoring and let Obama be Obama."
