GOP uses 9/11 in new attack ad

The NRCC targets Democrat Scott Murphy, who's running for an open House seat, hitting him for his opposition to the death penalty for terrorists.

With a special election to fill an open House seat in New York coming up on Tuesday, the National Republican Congressional Committee is pulling out its biggest gun: 9/11.

A new Web ad from the NRCC attacks Democrat Scott Murphy over his having said that he opposes the death penalty, even in terror cases. The video kicks off with the words "September 11, 2001" shown onscreen. Images of the attackers are then shown over audio of a radio interview in which Murphy discusses his views. (You can watch the ad below.)

As mentioned in an earlier post, a new poll shows Murphy having pulled ahead of his Republican opponent, Jim Tedisco. Tedisco's campaign maintains that its internal polling has found the opposite result, and that the same goes for surveys conducted by House Democrats and the Republican National Committee. If that's true, the NRCC might be seeing something different -- it's unusual to deploy an ad like this one when your candidate is leading.
