Some members of the Republican National Committee have been pressing their chair, Michael Steele, recently, asking him to use tougher language against their Democratic opponents. He may not have signed on to their resolution, which calls on Democrats to rename themselves "Democratic Socialists," but he does appear to be listening.

In a fundraising e-mail sent out Tuesday, Steele went after Pennsylvania Sen. Arlen Specter for having defected from the GOP and attacked Specter and his new allies in the Democratic Party, and used particularly pointed language to do so. The RNC chair compared the senator to notorious traitor Benedict Arnold, who betrayed the Americna Revolution, repeatedly used the word "radical" to describe President Obama's agenda and said, "Facing defeat in Pennsylvania's 2010 Republican primary due to his left-wing voting record, and an end to his 30 year career in the U.S. Senate, [Specter] has peddled his services -- and his vote -- to the leftist Obama Democrats who aim to remake America with their leftist plan."
