Advertising Age reports that Barack Obama's campaign "will be among the TV sponsors of NBC Universal's Olympics coverage." The campaign has agreed to a $5 million package that includes ads on network television and cable.
Ad Age's Ira Teinowitz calls the deal "the first significant network-TV buy of any presidential candidate in at least 16 years," and notes that "the last network TV spot bought by a presidential contender was apparently a single multi-minute ad run by Republican Sen. Bob Dole in 1996."
