The New York Times continues its pummeling of the McCain campaign.
In an extraordinary piece of reporting, "McCain and Team Have Many Ties to Gambling Industry," Jo Becker and Don Van Natta Jr. tell a tale of lobbying, government and the history of how Indian gambling became the phenomenon it is today that is riveting just as a good story. The fact that John McCain is the protagonist makes it essential reading.
For other recent battering-ram blows directed at the McCain campaign, I refer readers to the two part demolition of campaign manager Rick Davis (who also plays a key role in the Indian gaming narrative.)
And two weeks old, but still definitive, the Times' illuminating account of Sarah Palin's rise to power, "Once Elected, Palin Hired Friends and Lashed Foes."
Taken all together, it makes quite a package. No wonder the McCain campaign feels put upon.
