A lot of bands work a vibe similar to that of Brooklyn, N.Y.'s Oxford Collapse -- they just don't do it nearly as well. Taken on their own, the basic elements of the band's sound are pretty standard: ringing guitar lines, shouted group vocals and simple drumwork. There's nothing about the band's music that would've sounded out of place at any time during the past 25 years. But the trio's sense of conviction and enthusiasm absolutely prevents their music from sounding stale or derivative. Plus, you gotta love a band that records a song with a title like "Please Visit Your National Parks" -- which is taken from its latest disc, "Remember the Night Parties."
