Keith Ellison on police brutality: “There is a national consensus for real change”

Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison reflects on the prosecution of Derek Chauvin and the other Minneapolis police officers who murdered George Floyd. While a state attorney general wouldn't ordinarily prosecute local crimes, the former congressman was appointed as a special prosecutor in the Floyd case by Gov. Tim Walz. Ellison tells Salon why Chauvin's conviction is a positive step toward ending state violence and why the only things standing in the way of real change is race, class and political party.
