The boys learn about groupies on Making the Band (8:30 p.m. Fri., ABC). Xena: Warrior Princess (Sat., syndicated, check local times) ends its run with a two-hour series finale set in Japan. David Letterman's bandleader, Paul Shaffer, hosts the new series Cover Wars (9 p.m. Sat., VH1), in which three bands show off their knowledge of other people's hits as they compete for music equipment and the grand-prize van. Carrie and Miranda encounter their exes, who are now pals, on Sex and the City (9 p.m. Sun., HBO). Brian and Justin both reach milestones on the season finale of Queer as Folk (10 p.m. Sun., Showtime).

Billy Idol reveals the inspiration for "White Wedding," "Rebel Yell" and other snarly hits on VH1 Storytellers: Billy Idol (9 p.m. Fri., VH1). Sydney's gays and lesbians party Down Under in the documentary Gay Mardi Gras (10 p.m. EST/11 p.m. PST Fri., Bravo). The new cable movie Stranger Inside (9 p.m. Sat., HBO) stars Yolanda Ross as a troubled young woman who gets herself incarcerated in hopes of meeting her mother (Davenia McFadden), who is doing life for murder.
