Another thing I learned in my chat with Britt Daniel: Dinosaur Jr. was never scheduled to play the Merge showcase, as I reported on Friday. Spoon had always been scheduled to play the show, as Merge publicity director Martin Hall just confirmed to me. He explained that SXSW requested that Spoon not be listed as headliners on the showcase, because they already had a headlining spot Friday at La Zona Rosa. Apologies to Merge, to Spoon, to Dinosaur Jr. and to everyone I misinformed. I feel like the Dan Rather of music journalism. Courage.
Correction
The word that Dinosaur Jr. was scheduled to perform at SXSW was just a persistent and widespread rumor.
