Ripping off New Wave bands has begun to seem like a heartless, coldly calculated ploy for instant hipness and cultural cachet. Ripping off metal bands like Black Sabbath and Led Zep, as Wolfmother does so unabashedly, just seems endearingly dorky. The Australian trio re-creates the rock of 35-odd years ago with dogged enthusiasm -- and actually does it quite well.
