Singing about violence in the Seattle neighborhood of White Center, Damien Jurado sounds not just detached but sleepily disinterested on this song, which is reminiscent of Smog's strange, but subtly so, Americana indie rock. Also available for free download from his new full-length album, "On My Way to Absence," is "Lion Tamer." These songs aren't nearly as spectral and haunting as those on last year's EP, "Just in Time for Something" (try "Prices"), but they're certainly worth a listen.
