Daily Download: "What I Would Say at Your Funeral," Mugison

New music from a brilliant but frustrating and decidedly odd Icelandic star.

Mugison ("Mugi," apparently, to those in the know) is a big star in his native Iceland, where his latest record, "Mugimama, Is This Monkey Music?" beat out Björk's "Medulla" at the last Icelandic national music awards. His music can be both brilliant and frustrating -- like the similarly eclectic-minded Damon Gough (Badly Drawn Boy), he seems to be immensely skilled and full of amazing ideas, but also determinedly sloppy and a little short on quality control. This track is a darkly comic duet, kind of like a Magnetic Fields song without the rhymes, between Mugi and his somewhat gratingly voiced girlfriend, Rúna, whose coy and breathy coo is all over the album.
