I like Calla best at their more experimental, when they give in to the self-destructive desire to bury their songs beneath waves of distorted noise -- but that said, "It Dawned on Me," the opener from their new album, "Collisions," and a relatively straightforward burst of dark, atmospheric rock, shows that in their more accessible mode they're every bit as good as their more famous (perhaps not for long) New York brethren like Interpol and the Walkmen.
