There are two tracks available for download from the beautiful "The Carlton Chronicles: Not Until the Operation's Through," the third album (it's a grower, and worth the time and effort) by Centro-Matic frontman Will Johnson's other band, South San Gabriel. "I Am Six Pounds of Dynamite," which is a little reminiscent of Wilco in harmony-filled "Summerteeth" mode, features an amusing harp glissando filling into the chorus, both unexpected and delightful. But "The Dark of Garage" is the winner, a resonant, quietly insistent song that lifts you gently higher and higher, flowing out of some deep and hidden reservoir of contentment and understanding.
