Clogs are the most classically minded of a loosely connected and pleasingly simpatico group of acts, including the Books and Belle Orchestre, who could be vaguely generalized as adding warmth and romanticism to the rather frigid template of Chicago-style instrumental post-rock. This is a Web-only medley of two pieces from their lovely upcoming record "Lantern": "Kapsburger" is a marvelously fluid piece composed by a 16th century lutist; "5/4" sounds quite a bit like Clogs' sister band the National (they share two members, guitarist Bryce Dessner and multi-instrumentalist Padma Newsome), but with vocals replaced by Newsome's swooning, lyrical viola.
