Diane Cluck's songs blend together, both live and on her exquisite new release, "Macy's Day Bird," so much so that after a while you'll feel like you're listening to one long, elliptical song, never offering anything solid enough to really grab onto and hang your impressions around, but endlessly intriguing nonetheless. She delivers her songs in an oddly flat and straightforward voice that belies the poetic and emotional power of the music. For me, Cluck's magic is at its most potent when she double- or triple-tracks her voice, as she does to stunning effect on "Hover Not."
