The latest from Iceland's Mugison (whose song "What I Would Say at Your Funeral" was featured on Audiofile back in September) is a soundtrack to Icelandic director Baltasar Kormákur's film, "A Little Trip to Heaven," starring Julia Stiles and Forest Whitaker. Soundtrack work seems to suit Mugison's prolific, sloppy, equally inspired and half-baked approach to music, and while I haven't seen the film, much of his score, although consisting primarily of short, mood-setting clips of music, is actually good listening on its own. "Clip 10" opens with a creepy and somewhat surreal evocation of the Delta blues before falling into an odd, sleepy groove that makes beautiful use of drunken/sad Tom Waits-style horns.
