Troy Von Balthazar was once the lead singer of a Hawaiian band named Chokebore, and is now an itinerant solo artist who seems to spend most of his time traveling around France playing one-man-band shows with his guitar and an array of keyboards and effects. This song, from his self-titled 2005 release, has a deep melancholy to it in the slightly detached Beatles vein, and it's also an example of Balthazar's cannily spare sonic style, with his guitar joined first by a beat that almost sounds like a CD skip at first, then by a wonderfully tacky synth melody, ending with distorted guitar and little snatches of Balthazar's sampled vocal.
