One of the best and most underappreciated American bands of recent years, Califone will hopefully get a little profile boost from Thrill Jockey's rerelease of "Roomsound," originally put out on the band's own Perishable Records in 2001. To my ears their music contains everything that's good about Wilco and then some, with songs every bit as engrossing as Jeff Tweedy's, courtesy of the cryptic, threadbare musings of Tim Rutili, and set in an even more finely wrought sonic environment.
