Editorial writer editorializes

Rachel Sklar calls out CBS's "Public Eye" column -- while she writes it!

I didn't get to see Rachel Sklar's column for CBS News' "Public Eye" until today but when I did I was impressed. The piece itself was about the dismissal of Dan Rather. But she tacked on a P.S. addressed to the editors of the column, who each week invite writers from outside CBS to "weigh in with their thoughts about CBS News and the media at large" and who claim to "seek a wide variety of voices."

Sklar's postscript read, "Public Eye: This column runs weekly. I should NOT be the third woman who's done it since OCTOBER."

The editor has attached a reply note, reading, "It's not for lack of trying, but we'll re-double our efforts to find a 'wide variety of voices.'"

OK. We'll believe it when we see it. And meanwhile, kudos to Sklar for sticking it to the man while, well, working for the man.
