Norwegian trumpeter Nils Petter Molvaer makes music that is profoundly influenced by Miles Davis' seminal early '70s bands, but also incorporates electronica, house, Brian Eno's ambient soundscapes and a host of other influences into a murky, atmospheric fusion. Molvaer's a big name in Europe, but his music hasn't made much of a dent here, which the excellent experimental music label Thirsty Ear is hoping to remedy with its new release "An American Compilation," which collects tracks from Molvaer's last few releases. Also available for free download, from the same compilation, is "Nebulizer."
