Fifteen years after its initial release, Domino records is reissuing one of the classics of indie rock, "Sebadoh III," remastered, with a lot of rambling liner notes, a second disc including the "Gimme Indie Rock EP" and a selection of largely forgettable outtakes. Despite its importance in establishing the lo-fi aesthetic, this is a woefully inconsistent, sometimes maddening record, but there are some gems here. Domino has posted "The Freed Pig" and "Gimme Indie Rock," two of Lou Barlow's most peevish -- and effective -- efforts, for free download. My favorite, though, is "Kath," a strange and sweet love Barlow wrote for his wife, with interlocking guitar parts that sound like field recordings of some sort of South American folk music.
