Emily Haines is best known as the lead singer of Metric and as a vocalist for Broken Social Scene, but this song, from her upcoming solo debut, “Knives Don’t Have Your Back,” is a piece of sedate, solemn piano pop that bears little resemblance to the work of either band. It’s more reminiscent of Aimee Mann, and while Haines can’t compete with Mann as a writer, she’s still a lovely singer, and the track is exquisitely produced.
