The buck stops ... well, not here, anyway

Ken Mehlman says he isn't responsible for an ad run by the Republican National Committee.

Appearing on MSNBC this afternoon, Ken Mehlman said he couldn't pull an offensive anti-Harold Ford Jr. advertisement from the airwaves even if he wanted to. "I don't have the authority to take it down or put it up," the Hotline quotes Mehlman as saying. "It's called an independent expenditure."

Well, OK, but Josh Marshall has just one question. No, two. First, doesn't the end of the ad say that the "Republican National Committee is responsible for the content of this advertisement" and in fact "paid" for it? Second, isn't Mehlman the chairman of the Republican National Committee?

Surely, we must be missing something here. Ken? Ken?
