Catfish Haven strike me as a bit of an anomaly. Essentially a bar band with some nice tunes and a soulful but fairly generic lead vocalist, they've managed, thanks in part to the deservedly ballooning clout of their label, Secretly Canadian, to make a name for themselves in artsy, hipster indie circles. (Maybe that appreciation is tinged with trucker hat irony.) Their first full-length, "Tell Me," doesn't have anything that pops quite like "Please Come Back," which I posted earlier this year, but the whole disc is pleasant, if not thrilling.
