Isobel Campbell, the former Belle and Sebastian member who earlier this year released a decent duet record with Mark Lanegan, describes her new "Milkwhite Sheets" -- an acoustic album of reworked English folk songs and new compositions in the same vein -- as "feminine, animalistic and pagan," which makes it a no-brainer that she'd include a cover of "Willow's Song," the chilling signature song from the Wicker Man and the very musical apotheosis of feminine animalistic paganism. It's a beautifully done cover, setting the tone for a lovely and lonely album, and Campbell's pure, poker-faced voice is the perfect instrument for this kind of chilly Celtic mysticism vibe.
