A band that plays fractured pop songs and features a cute Japanese woman (Satomi Matsuzaki) for a lead singer may seem like the definition of a critics' favorite, but San Francisco's Deerhoof are charming enough for the casual music fan to enjoy as well. As is common with Deerhoof tunes, "The Perfect Me," from the band's upcoming "Friend Opportunity," sounds like five different songs crashing into each other, as the guitars, vocals, percussion and keyboards all jostle for space. It's a great example of Deerhoof's kitchen sink approach to songwriting.
