New beginnings are a good opportunity to try out a different look, a bold style. As Audiofile enters a new stage, we feel the need to mix it up a little. But unlike that friend who wore a ridiculous pleather jacket his first year at college, Audiofile is going to get an awesome makeover, and we're seeking the help of our readers to come up with a new logo. The winning design might be something totally off-the-wall or it might have elements of the old design. For the record: We do like the gramophone. But we're not absolutely wedded to it, and designers should not feel they have to incorporate it into the image. Express yourselves, but do your best to stay true to the spirit of Audiofile. Gabe Greenberg, whose wonderful drawing has marked this page for two years, has set a mighty high bar.
The winning submission will be awarded $200 -- plus the unquestionable glory of adorning Audiofile and basking in the admiration of millions for years to come. You'll also get a credit line, and you give us permission to reuse the image in every conceivable way.
Please send your designs to audiofile@salon.com. The design should be no wider than 392 pixels, and no taller than 180 pixels (in high resolution, if possible). We will post interesting submissions as they come in, and we will post our finalists on Thursday, Feb. 8. After considering your feedback, we will unveil the winner the following Monday, Feb. 12. So pull out those T-squares and get to work! We're excited to see what you can do. Or forward this contest on to your designer friends. Glory awaits!
