After Natalie Portman swore they'd change your life in "Garden State," Albuquerque's the Shins went from being a little band to a big little band (it was one of the indie acts featured on the movie's Grammy-winning soundtrack). If today's download -- taken from "Wincing the Night Away" (out Jan. 23) -- is at all indicative, that fortune-changing name drop hasn't led the band to reconsider their approach. Lots of bands have faltered when faced with the increased expectations of some mainstream success, but the lovely "Phantom Limb" suggests the Shins have stayed true to their own brand of off-kilter guitar pop. Check back tomorrow for a review of the new album.
