Carter to Gore: Run, Al, run

The former president doesn't think Gore will run, but it's not for lack of trying.

Al Gore isn't running for president -- at least not yet -- but he just picked up a pretty good endorsement anyway. In an ABC interview to be aired Sunday, former President Jimmy Carter says he has been begging Gore to get into the race and that he'd support him if he did.

"If Al should decide to run -- which I'm afraid he won't -- I would support Al Gore," Carter tells George Stephanopoulos.

Carter says he has "put so much pressure on Al to run that he's almost gotten aggravated with me." The last time the two men talked, Carter says, Gore "almost told me ... 'Don't call me anymore.'"
