He didn't expect many black votes, anyway

Oh boy. At least this might distract people from tallying the hours he spent at ground zero.

The Associated Press reports that Rudy Giuliani has hired Heath Thompson and his Dallas firm, Scott Howell & Co., to work on his media campaign. They're the folks who brought us the ugliest commercial of the 2006 race, featuring a barely dressed white woman talking breathily about meeting Tennessee Democrat Harold Ford at a Playboy Mansion party, and ending with the kicker: "Harold, call me!" The NAACP and others denounced it as racist, and even Republican Bob Corker distanced himself from it. Thompson also ran President Bush's nasty 2000 campaign against John McCain in South Carolina, which featured allegations that McCain had fathered a black child. (His adopted daughter, Bridget, was born in Bangladesh.) Watch out, Sen. McCain -- and Sen. Obama!
