There are tons of finales on tonight, but we're probably going to be watching that old slippery, soapy favorite "Grey's Anatomy" (9 p.m. EDT on ABC) instead. How does Shonda Rhimes do it? Every other week we want to write this show off as an oversized, sticky-sweet cinnamon bun of silliness, and then, in the blink of an eye, we've got tears in our eyes and icing on our fingers and the credits are rolling. In some ways, Kate Walsh's spinoff "Private Practice" (which returns in the fall) only demonstrated how hard it is to replicate the careful balance of sugar and spice in the addictive fast-talking lady doctors of "Grey's Anatomy."

Also…

Tonight, there's a long list of season finales on the agenda: The season finale of "My Name Is Earl" (8 p.m. on NBC), the season finale of "Smallville" (8 p.m. on the CW), the season finale of "The Office" (9 p.m. on NBC), the season finale of "Supernatural" (9 p.m. on the CW) and the season finale of "ER" (10 p.m. on NBC). But don't let any of those make you miss "Lost" (10 p.m. on ABC), which is the first of a three-part finale, or "Step It Up & Dance" (10 p.m. on Bravo), which is hopelessly cheesy and terrible but mesmerizing nonetheless.
